Boats &
Other Stuff

Boats & Other Stuff portraits

I'm a (very) novice sailor, and belong to a local sailing club. I had the pleasure of painting a fellow club member on his boat, and had to teach myself how to paint water for the first time! As often happens, this portrait led to others, and these are the results of works I've done so far.

The bandstand is of course not a boat. But it is here in its "Other Stuff" home!

A Park in Kent

"Lynne did a painting for us recently and it was wonderful. We asked for a particular local park scene as it has resonance with my son and his family, and although Lynne said she had never done landscapes before, the final result was fabulous. It has so much depth and detail. I changed my mind twice during the process, and Lynne was always fine about accepting any changes as she genuinely only wanted me to be happy with the end result. Living not far away I was able to visit to check on progress and I could see some portraits already completed. How she could capture somebody's personality and soul like that is beyond me! I completely recommend Lynne, she's a genuine find and you will not be disappointed." - Angela.

The tiny house tucked away in the background, (No.79), is Angela's son's house. Do you have a special place that has meaning for you, and you would like immortalised in a bespoke piece of art?

Quintessentially Heswall

I completed this painting to enter a competition organised by the Heswall and District Business Association. (Heswall, on the Wirral, is where I live).

The association produces and sells a calendar every year, and for their 2026 calendar they invited submissions from local artists to have their work, with a Heswall theme, featured.

I am happy that I was chosen, by public vote, to be one of the 12 artists to have their work included in the calendar, (one per month, obviously!).

I chose to portray several aspects, or landmarks of Heswall, and blend them to form a composition.

This is another example of a portrait not having to be about a person, or a pet, but can be about a favourite place, a house, a boat - anything and anywhere that has meaning for you.

And I'm beginning to very much enjoy, and feel much more confident, working on landscapes!

Simon

Sailing is a huge part of this person's life. The subject of this work is of course Simon and his catamaran, but creating this painting gave me the opportunity to portray the sea, land, and sky, which I'd not had much practice in up until now!

Suzy

Yes, Suzy is the name of the boat, not a person!

Taffy

This is my friend Taffy and his daughter on her boat.
I created the composition from several photos, demonstrating that I don't have to see my subjects "in the flesh" if it's not convenient or possible.

Robin

This is Robin, sailing his beloved boat "Dolce Vita". I cheated a bit with this one.......the sky in the original photos was the "normal" blue with white cloud. I substituted it with this sky at sunset, to give the painting more interest and drama. So, photos are a base to work from, but don't have to be adhered to rigidly!
